The SWOT analysis is a well-known framework that is taught to every business student. It provides a systematic way to identify and analyze an organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The primary purpose of a SWOT analysis is to raise awareness of the factors that influence business decisions and strategy development. To conduct a comprehensive SWOT analysis, it is necessary to consider both internal and external factors that could impact the organization's decision-making process and viability.
The SWOT analysis is not only limited to companies and organizations but can also be applied to non-profit organizations. By using the SWOT analysis, non-profits can assess their initiatives, outcomes, deliverables, and measure project success. This tool can also help improve outreach and effectiveness.
The SWOT analysis can also be used as a brainstorming aid in business decision-making. By uncovering opportunities for success that were previously unarticulated, organizations can plan more effective strategies. Additionally, by identifying SWOT areas in an organization, employees can better understand the current scope of opportunity and what's required to maximize it. Overall, the SWOT analysis is a powerful tool that can help businesses and non-profits alike improve their decision-making processes and achieve greater success.
But now after we apply the SWOT to organizations, companies, and non-for-profit organizations, why we don’t apply it individually! YES we can apply the SWOT on ourselves.
SWOT could apply on individual, as It's common for individuals to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses from time to time, but a haphazard self-reflection may not be enough to propel them to success. A SWOT analysis offers a more structured approach to self-evaluation. This tool enables individuals to identify and address their problems in a manner that's easily comprehensible. By using a SWOT framework to evaluate themselves, individuals can gain a better understanding of their weaknesses and the threats they face, which can then guide them towards potential solutions. Neglecting to acknowledge one's weaknesses and focusing only on strengths can hinder personal growth and development. A SWOT analysis can help individuals achieve a more balanced view of themselves and lead them towards greater success.
As an example, I made a transition from a career in banking to working for a non-profit organization. Although I didn't dislike my job at the bank, I wasn't particularly passionate about it either. To explore other options, I took a two-year break and delved into the non-profit sector by researching and speaking with individuals in the field. After gaining a better understanding of the required skills, I realized that I possessed enough competencies to succeed in this field. I then secured a full-time position in one of USAID project, followed by another role in EU project. Additionally, I pursued various training opportunities and obtained relevant certificates to further enhance my abilities in my new career path.
Therefore, always remember to SWOT yourself!

Open your secret bag!
Each individual around us possesses a unique psychological, genetic, and cultural makeup that is not replicated between any two individuals. Whether it's me, you, or anyone you know, we carry a set of factors, circumstances, and influences that differ. However, the problem does not lie in the diversity of human personalities but rather in the inability of each individual to discover oneself and understand the reasons for their differences from others. Each person believes they are unique in their era and unlike anyone else in their time. People argue about them,…
